America’s Newspapers - Ventura County Star Contains full-text articles from the Ventura County Star.
Ancestry Library EditionFor beginning and advanced genealogy researchers, this database includes over 5 billion names and 500,000 family trees.  It provides extensive coverage of the U.S., including census data, birth, marriage, and death records, World War I draft registration cards, Social Security death records, and immigration lists.  The database contains an extensive collection of information from the U.K., including census records, civil registrations, and probate records dating back to the 1500s.  Less extensive coverage of Canada, Europe and other areas is provided as well.  Available in-library only.
Artemis: Literature (formerly Literature Resource Center) Languages other than English available – Primary sources, critical articles, literary and cultural analysis, and biographies. Provides new workflow tools like term clusters, term frequency graphs and search assist functionality. Mobile compatible.

Gale Virtual Reference Library Languages other than English available Features content available in audio Downloadable app available A database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. Once available only in the library, these reference sources can now be accessed online 24/7 from either the library or a remote location.  Ventura County Library’s Virtual Reference Library collection includes information on drugs and other addictive substances, endangered species, the American Revolution and Civil War, the Great Depression, the social history of the 20th century decade by decade, fashion through the ages, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

HeritageQuest Online – This database complements Ancestry Library Edition.  Besides U.S. federal census data (1790-1940), HeritageQuest Online includes over 20,000 family and local history books and over 250 primary-source documents such as tax lists, city directories, and probate records.  The database includes other unique sources of information such as PERSI, an index of over 1.9 million genealogy and local history articles, the Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files and the Freedman’s Bank RecordsHeritageQuest Online can be used at home as well as in the library.

Mango Languages Languages other than English available Downloadable app available – An online language-learning system that teaches conversation skills for a wide variety of languages. Real-life situations and actual conversations are used to more effectively teach a new language. By listening to and repeating after material designed from native conversations, users not only learn the individual words and phrases, but how these are used in practical situations and conversations. To take full advantage of this program, customers will need to have a computer with headphones or speakers and microphone. In-library customers must have their own equipment!
